Gold Star Credit Repair is a credit repair company that offers monthly plans for individuals and couples that are facing credit difficulties and collections letters. They will dispute items on credit reports that are negative and inaccurate, and will also send direct response letters to collection agencies.
Pros
The first positive aspect of the company we found was that they offer and additional service to their customers, help dealing with collections agencies. This can be a boon to those with serious debt problems. Moreover, they will give consumers the information they need to challenge any collectors that are operating outside of the guidelines the law allows. This consumer service indicates that the company is in business to help its customers, and gets the extra points in our review.
They also have the additional benefit of they help consumers figure out what to dispute on their credit report, including inaccurate or false information which might include things such as late or missed payments, liens, bankruptcies, judgements, and more. This lets consumers raise their credit score by removing false information, helping them qualify for better rates on loans and credit applications. These disputes are one of the most successful credit repair strategies.
Cons
Unfortunately, they do have some downsides, for example, they use a pricing model that we don’t particularly care for, monthly fees. This doesn’t work as well for us as a pay-per-deletion model that other credit repair services offer because the customer has to pay but may not get any results for their money. Moreover, they don’t have any control over how long it takes credit reporting agencies to respond to disputes and verification requests, which could mean a surprisingly high bill for the consumer.
They also have some other issues, including the fact that at $99 per month, plus a $129 start-up fee for individuals, and $158/month with a $179 start-up fee for couples, Gold Star’s prices are a bit higher than we think they should be. If you’re facing lots of collections efforts or have a large number of items on your credit report, then it might be worth this higher-than-average monthly fee, otherwise you might consider a different service.
Verdict
Gold Star Credit Repair is a middle of the pack style credit repair option. They offer help with collections and dispute information on credit reports, but they have a monthly payment setup and higher-than-average prices to go with it. This means there’s probably a better credit repair option for many consumers.
